“Howdy, I’m Braylie Manson!  I was born and raised in Texas and am a recent graduate of Texas A&M University with a B.A. in Theatre. I was part of the Theatre Honors Society, Alpha Psi Omega where I was Vice President.  I also worked in the scenic design shop at TAMU for 3 years. I have a passion for Scenic design and Directing and am jazzed about becoming a part of the SDJT family. I have been everything under the sun in production from onstage and backstage. I am thrilled to be a part of the world of theatre creation again here in San Diego!”

POSITION TITLE: Education Director
STATUS: Full-Time, Exempt
SCHEDULE: Variable
COMPENSATION: Commensurate
Position Summary: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Education Director is responsible for the operations of all education programs, supervising all Education Department staff, and promoting San Diego Junior Theatre in the community.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership

  • Represent and advocate for Junior Theatre in the community
  • Supervise education related staff
  • Participate in the ongoing strategic planning process as an integral member of the senior management team

Program

  • Oversee all Education programming, including school year sessions, summer and vacation camps, and outreach programs
  • Guide all Education Program Development, including planning brochures and schedules, developing new curriculum, and creating new opportunities
  • Recruit, train, and manage all teaching artists and aides

TEACHING ARTISTS

Teaching Artists are required to teach students ages 3-18 in one/all of the following capacities: on-site classes and camps in Balboa Park or off-site outreach programs, on or off-site workshops. Prepares and maintains all class materials and supplies. In conjunction with the Education Director, may develop new classes and course curriculum. This is a seasonal position.
Salary: DOE
Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) from an accredited college or university in the performing arts, education or related field
  • Extensive experience and active current practice in art form(s) to be taught
  • Experience working with/teaching students from K-12
  • Voice Teachers must be able to play piano
  • Completed Mandated Reporter Training (http://educators.mandatedreporterca.com/default.htm)

Desired:

  • Previous teaching artist experience
  • Curriculum development
  • CPR, AED & First Aid certified.
  • Experience working with students with special needs.

Director of Mr. Popper Penguins

San Diego Junior Theatre is pleased to announce that Ricardo Valenzuela is set to direct and choreograph Mr. Poppers Penguins. The auditions will be held Monday, April 23- Wednesday, April 25th from 4-6pm.  
Ricardo Valenzuela is a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, NYC.  As an actor, he recorded two full seasons as a lead character in the Latin American television show titled Dos y Dos. He has performed at the Starlight Bowl, Moonlight Amphitheatre, San Diego Musical Theatre, Hispanic Arts Theatre, San Diego Asian Repertory Theatre, Coronado Playhouse, Christian Community Theatre, and on the Holland America Cruise Line as a contestant of Dancing with the Stars at sea with celebrity judges Kym Johnson and Carson Kressley.  Ricardo comes to us from our neighbor program San Diego Civic Dance Arts where he choreographed countless musical theatre style numbers for recitals, productions, camps, and their award winning showcase Collage for over 11 years.
