General Information & Theatre Policies

Please review the following general information and policies for ticketing and the Casa del Prado Theatre. If you have a question not answered below, please call the box office at 619-239-8355.

THEATRE & TICKET POLICIES

Child Tickets
All patrons two-years-old and up must have a ticket to enter the theatre. Children under two-years-old do not need a ticket if they sit on a parent or guardian’s lap. If a child under two years old needs their own seat, they must have a ticket.

Refunds & Exchanges
Tickets are non-refundable. Exchanges may be made based on availability, as long as they are processed in advance of the performance. Unused tickets may not be exchanged or credited once the performance has begun or any time after the performance has passed.

Pets & Service Animals
No dogs or any type of pet are allowed in the Casa del Prado Theatre. Service Animals are welcome. Service dogs are trained to do work or perform a task for persons with disabilities. Comfort and/or emotional support animals are not service animals and are not recognized by the ADA.

Theatre Restrooms
Restrooms are located in the lobby and are for ticketed patrons, only. Restrooms will not be available until seating begins, 30 minutes prior to the performance. There are open restrooms located on the ground floor of the Casa del Prado Classroom Building, on the south side of the courtyard next to the theatre. For matinee performances, there are additional restrooms available in the Village Arts Center (formerly Spanish Village).

Parking
We strongly suggest patrons plan to arrive early to find parking. Using a rideshare service to the Park is advisable.

The City of San Diego has implemented paid parking in Balboa Park with policy changes in effect as of March 2.

Payment is required from 8am to 6pm (previously 8pm), 7 days per week. Monthly/quarterly/annual parking passes are available.

Verified City residents may now park for free in Level 2 or 3 lots.

Nearest the Casa del Prado Theatre, the South Carousel lot remains Level 1 with discounted pricing for verified City residents. The Bea Evenson/Natural History Museum lot is now Level 2.

The lot at Inspiration Point offers 3 hours of free parking for everyone. The Balboa Park tram will take you from Inspiration Point to Plaza de Panama and it is a 4-minute walk over from there.

Meters for roadways within the Park, such as Village Place, will be $2.50 per hour/$10 per day maximum.

For more details on paid parking, including maps of the parking lots, purchasing passes, and registering as a City resident, please visit the City of San Diego website here.

The San Diego Zoo has also implemented paid parking, separate from the City, and parking passes purchased from the City will not be valid for the Zoo lot. For more information on the Zoo’s plan, please visit their website or contact the Zoo directly.

Food & Drink
No food or drink, except bottled water, may be brought into or consumed inside the theatre.

We offer refreshments for sale in front of the theatre before the show and during intermission. We accept cash, all credit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. We do not accept Venmo. All refreshments must be consumed prior to entering the theatre.

Age Recommendations & Content
Most SDJT shows are appropriate for all ages. Typically, there are one or two shows per season that may contain mature themes and content. In those cases, we will make age recommendations and offer a content notice, if necessary. Age recommendations are only a guideline and it is up to parents and guardians to decide if a show is appropriate for their child. Age recommendations and content notices are prominently included on all show pages on the website.

Theatre Accessibility
The Casa del Prado is wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair and companion seating in the theatre are indicated on the seating chart when purchasing tickets. Please note, wheelchair locations are open spaces for wheelchairs to park to watch the performance. There are no seats in those locations. Accessible tickets are only for patrons with disabilities and their companions. Patrons who abuse this policy could have their order canceled. If you’ve purchased accessible tickets in error, please contact the box office to be re-seated.

American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreted Performances
SDJT offers an ASL-interpreted performance for every production, with rare exceptions. The ASL-interpreted performances always land on the last Saturday of a show’s run. Each show’s page on the website will list the date of the interpreted performance. Before purchasing tickets, please check carefully. If an ASL-interpreted performance date is not listed on the show’s page, there is not one scheduled for that production.

For optimal viewing of the ASL interpreters, members of the Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing community should select the seats in the red section of the seating chart when purchasing tickets.

COVID-19 Policy
SDJT recommends that all of its patrons be vaccinated and fully boosted against COVID-19. Masks are recommended but not required. Disposable masks are available with the House Manager at the front door for any patrons who request one.

If you are experiencing flu or COVID-like symptoms, please refrain from attending the performance and contact the box office to exchange your tickets.

Our full COVID-19 policy, subject to change, can be found here.
