Our Educational Programs
San Diego Junior Theatre is a comprehensive theatre education program for children ages 3-18, with a curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and aligned with California Arts Standards. Camps, classes, and workshops are offered year-round in the Casa del Prado classroom facility located at the corner of Village Place and El Prado.
ACADEMIC YEAR
Programs offered during the academic year are generally divided into three 10-week sessions (fall, winter, spring). Classes are divided by age and discipline (acting, voice, movement/dance, specialty/technical).
SUMMER
One-week day camps for children in grades K–12 are offered June-August. Students take classes in music, dance, acting and specialty topics daily, and are grouped by grade. Two-week, project-based conservatory camps and technical theatre camps may be offered at alternative locations. After-care available until 5:00 pm.
VACATION CAMPS
Vacations camps are one-week sessions of day camp held during fall, winter, and spring vacations. Timing varies based on holidays and academic breaks. Creative Play Camp is a one-week, half-day camp for 3-5 year-olds offered at least once per year.
HOMESCHOOL
Junior Theatre has programs for students who are educated through homeschooling or virtual education. Programs can integrate drama into history lessons, children’s literature and even science. For more information, please contact Education Director, Elissa Russell.
THEATRE-IN-THE-PARK WORKSHOPS
Theatre in the Park workshops are designed to enhance a child’s educational experience following a Junior Theatre Student Matinee. Led by a professional teaching artist, students participate in standards-based theatre activities and games that explore the characters and themes in the play.
