The Wizard of Oz
Directed by Lois De Lannoy and Beth Masterson
Based on the Book by L. Frank Baum
During 1945-1947, Elizabeth Masterson and Lois De Lannoy produced and directed the first informal Children’s Theater productions in Balboa Park, under the auspices of the City of San Diego Park and Recreation Department.
“As in the case of music, enthusiastic teachers led the way to theatrical experiences in local schools,” wrote actor G. Carroll Rice in The Lively Arts in El Cajon, 1892 – 1952.
“Beth Masterson was foremost in direction of grammar school plays, developing such talented students as Jack Thompson as actors; and directing pageant-like spectacles such as A Mother Goose Picnic…”
