Kimberly King, a 27-year veteran public school teacher, led theatre and choral music departments of the SBUSD VPA program for 12 years, and experienced first-hand the growth in literacy, empathy, and increased attendance with arts education. She is proud of her service on the boards of JT, Coronado Playhouse, San Diego’s Theatre Alliance, San Diego Black Theatre Collective, San Diego Theatre Teachers Alliance, and Teenage Youth Performing Arts Theatre Company which she co-founded with her youngest son Imahni. Kimberly has served as a dramaturg, teaching artist and occasional actor in local theatre productions, maintaining focus on the transformative power of theatre. Two of her children were active Junior Theatre students until they were 18 and Kimberly joyfully served in almost every volunteer capacity possible for a JT parent.
