Junior Theatre Core Values
EMPATHY
Our students engage with characters who are different from themselves. They learn to walk in someone else’s shoes… literally!
IDENTITY
Junior Theatre training fosters creativity, imagination, and independent thinking which helps a young person face life’s challenges and discover themselves and their place in this world.
RESILIENCY
A young artist’s journey can be full of setbacks, but when disappointments arise, Junior Theatre students learn to recover, move forward, and spring back with flexibility.
RESPONSIBILITY
Once a Junior Theatre production opens, its success is entirely dependent on young people. If something goes awry during a performance, our students must exercise critical thinking and teamwork skills to ensure the “show will go on.”
GRIT
JT students learn the value of commitment and hard work, even when their contributions may not always be visible on the stage. This teaches them the fortitude to stay focused and continue giving their best, and to not give up even when the going gets tough.
COMMUNITY
Junior Theatre is a unique community where young people connect, collaborate, and learn from people of different ethnicities, genders, ages, social circumstances and cultures.
Whether it’s onstage, backstage, in the classroom, or in the audience, there’s a good chance that a child’s lifelong appreciation in the arts will begin at San Diego Junior Theatre.
