Sylvia Martinez Avey

(SDJT ’72-’82) credits her career today to her beginnings at Junior Theater. Following Junior Theater, she was awarded a full scholarship from KNSD/KCST to San Diego City College and two years later San State University where she received her Bachelors in Television Management. While attending college and 7 more years thereafter, she worked for the local television station in production and operations. Sylvia and her husband John made a move to Chicago’s public television station, WYCC where she became Program Director and Acting General Manager in 1993. Continuing in the public television vein she later served as General Manager for the public television station KWBU/KCTF in the Central Texas region. Desiring the big city again, she and her husband moved to the Big D (Dallas) where she took the position as Director of Programming & Marketing for the independent television station, KXTX. After 11 years away from Southern California, she and her husband returned to the area and now works in Burbank as Raycom Media’s Corporate Program Director managing the company’s 46 television stations syndicated programming acquisitions. Sylvia and her husband John live in Studio City with their dog, Sammi and their cat, Mr. Big.rnrn
