San Diego Junior Theatre Honors

San Diego Junior Theatre 60th Anniversary

What are the Junior Theatre Honors?
Since its founding in the late 1940s, San Diego Junior Theatre has been dedicated to its mission of providing engaging, innovative and high-quality theatre education and productions to enhance the lives of children of all ages, cultural backgrounds, abilities and levels of interest. As a result, San Diego Junior Theatre has a long and valued history of outstanding shows and productions and educational camps and classes.

San Diego Junior Theatre is measured in part by what the children who participate in its shows and productions and educational programs become and accomplish as adults.

San Diego Junior Theatre is the beneficiary of, and is also measured by, the many individuals who serve and support Junior Theatre and its mission.

At an annual event, San Diego Junior Theatre presents the Junior Theatre Honors to recognize these individuals in the following two categories:

ALUMNI ACHIEVEMENT
At least two and no more than four Junior Theatre alumni are recognized for exemplary lifetime achievement in their careers, professions, occupations or community service. Because theatre is the cornerstone of Junior Theatre’s mission, each year at least one alumnus is recognized for lifetime achievement in the Arts. Junior Theatre alumni eligible for this award are individuals who had a meaningful experience and relationship with Junior Theatre through participation in (1) shows or productions as a cast or crew member, (2) classes, camps, workshops, or community collaborations/partnerships, and/or (3) Confetti.

DISTINGUISHED SERVICE
One or two individuals are recognized for their distinguished or extraordinary service to San Diego Junior Theatre, as exhibited by the giving of their time, talent or treasure. It is not necessary to be a Junior Theatre alumnus to receive a Junior Theatre Honor in this category.

The annual event is held at Casa Del Prado Theatre in Balboa Park, San Diego, California. The program features cast members from the Junior Theatre show that is currently in production performing songs from the show, and unique musical pieces for each honoree that are performed by current Junior Theatre children.
